Model Background
The Omega Planet Ocean Ultra Deep exists because Omega actually went to the bottom of the ocean and came back with a watch that worked. In 2019, as part of the Five Deeps Expedition, a prototype strapped to the outside of the DSV Limiting Factor reached the Challenger Deep — the deepest point on Earth at nearly 11,000 meters — and survived. The Ultra Deep 6000M is the production expression of that achievement, rated to 6,000 meters and ISO 6425:2018 certified for saturation diving by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology. That's not a marketing figure — it's a tested, certified number. This "Summer Blue" reference takes the engineering story a step further with a dial that's an actual topographic representation of the Challenger Deep floor, mapped using nearly one million sonar data points collected by the Five Deeps team. The case and bracelet are O-MEGASTEEL — Omega's proprietary stainless steel alloy engineered for superior hardness and corrosion resistance — and the black ceramic bezel with LiquidMetal diving scale gives it an integrated, flush-set look that conventional applied markers can't match. The Caliber 8912 inside is METAS Master Chronometer certified, anti-magnetic to 15,000 gauss, and features two barrels in series for a 60-hour power reserve with an independently adjustable hour hand for quick time zone changes. At 45.5mm and 18.1mm thick it's a substantial presence on the wrist, but this is a watch that was designed to function at pressures that would crush a submarine — it's supposed to feel like it means business.
