The Portugieser Chronograph is one of the most successful models IWC has ever made, and the 3716 generation marked a significant turning point for the line — it was the first time the Portugieser Chrono received a true in-house movement. The Caliber 69355 replaced the long-running ETA/Valjoux-based caliber and brought a column-wheel chronograph with it, visible through the sapphire exhibition caseback that the previous generation didn't have. The dial design hasn't changed because it didn't need to — the railroad-track quarter-second scale, the vertically arranged subdials at 6 and 12, and the slim feuille hands are a direct lineage from the 1930s pocket watches that started the Portugieser name. This particular reference pairs a silver-plated dial with blue hands, blue Arabic numerals, and blue appliqués, all on a dark blue alligator strap, making it one of the most versatile color combinations in the current lineup. The 41mm stainless steel case wears true to size and at 13mm thick it maintains the slim, dressy profile the Portugieser is known for, while the 46-hour power reserve and hacking seconds keep the daily practicality in line with the price.
