The standard Navitimer chronograph is one of the most recognizable watches ever made — and Breitling limited this version to a thousand individually numbered examples for a reason. The Aurora Blue dial shifts the entire personality of the Navitimer away from the black-and-white cockpit instrument it's been since 1952 and into something with depth and color that the regular catalog has never offered in this combination. Arabic numeral hour markers replace the standard batons, giving the three-register chronograph layout a more classical, almost dressy legibility, and the red central chronograph seconds hand cuts across that blue field with a visual sharpness that draws the eye to the one thing a chronograph is supposed to do — measure elapsed time. Through the exhibition sapphire caseback you're looking directly at the Cal. B01, the first movement Breitling ever designed, developed, and manufactured entirely in-house, and the architecture is worth the window: column-wheel chronograph control, vertical clutch engagement, 47 jewels, and a 70-hour power reserve that represents the kind of mechanical ambition Breitling hadn't committed to in decades before this caliber debuted in 2009.
The Ocean Racer rubber strap on this particular reference is what makes a 43mm chronograph with a 14.25mm profile genuinely comfortable as a daily wearer. At roughly 81 grams for the case alone, the titanium-weight savings of rubber versus the Navitimer's Pilot bracelet is substantial, and the textured blue rubber matches the dial tone while adding a sporty character that leather can't replicate when the temperature rises. The bidirectional rotating bezel carries the full circular slide rule — functional for multiplication, division, unit conversion, fuel consumption, rate-time-distance calculations — and the polished stainless steel bezel ring reflects the same finishing as the case. The sapphire crystal is scratch-resistant, the crown is push/pull, and the 30-meter water resistance keeps the watch sealed for daily exposure. A thousand of these exist, the production run is closed, and the Cal. B01 inside each one is COSC-certified to chronometer standards.
