There is a reason people pay a premium for this reference over the Submariner Date, and it has nothing to do with the movement or the specs — it's the dial. No date window. No Cyclops lens. Every element on this face is symmetrically placed: the triangle at 12, the circles at the quarters, the batons between them, the Mercedes hands centered in the middle. The Submariner Date has been interrupting that symmetry with a window at 3 o'clock since 1969, and the 114060 is the answer for everyone who ever looked at a Submariner and wished Rolex had left the date out. The crystal is flat, unbroken sapphire with no Cyclops bubble distorting the side profile, and the effect is a cleaner, more resolved silhouette than any Submariner Date from any generation.
