Model Background


Tudor has been building chronographs since 1970, when the Oysterdate became the brand's first stopwatch-equipped wristwatch. The Black Bay Chrono is where that motorsport heritage meets the dive-watch DNA that defines the Black Bay line. At its heart sits the Manufacture Calibre MT5813 — a column wheel, vertical clutch chronograph developed in collaboration with Breitling and based on the B01 architecture, widely regarded as one of the best integrated chronograph platforms in the industry. Tudor adds its own silicon balance spring, variable inertia balance, and tungsten monobloc rotor, then puts the whole package through COSC chronometer certification. The reverse panda — black dial with silver sub-counters — is the darker, more assertive sibling of the white-dial panda, and for a lot of collectors it's the version that wears more naturally day to day. The contrast between the black dial surface and the silver counters gives the chronograph sub-dials a recessed, three-dimensional quality that reads differently depending on the light. The 2025 5-link bracelet with Tudor's T-fit rapid adjustment clasp gives it a slightly dressier wrist presence than the original riveted Oyster while keeping the 200-meter water resistance and screw-down pushers fully intact. At this specification level — integrated column wheel chronograph, 70-hour power reserve, COSC certification, 200m water resistance — the Black Bay Chrono competes directly with watches at twice its retail price.
