IWC Pilot's Watch Mark XX — Ref. IW328205

IN PRODUCTION
Every Mark in IWC's Pilot's Watch lineage traces back to a single contract: the Mark 11, developed in 1948 for the navigators and pilots of the Royal Air Force, stamped with a broad arrow to mark British Crown ownership, and built around three engineering requirements that haven't changed in seventy-seven years. The movement must be shielded from magnetic fields. The crystal must not detach in a sudden cockpit pressure drop. The dial must be legible in any lighting condition. The Mark XX carries all three — a soft-iron inner cage surrounding the Cal. 32111, a mechanically secured convex sapphire crystal, and a high-contrast green dial with white Arabic numerals and Super-LumiNova — and then adds the one thing every previous Mark lacked: a 120-hour power reserve. Five full days. Take it off Friday evening, find it still running Wednesday morning. The Cal. 32111 delivers nearly three times the reserve of the Mark XVIII's Sellita-based predecessor, and it does it in a case that's actually thinner (10.8mm vs 11mm) and shorter lug-to-lug (49mm vs 51mm) than the watch it replaced. The green dial on brown calfskin is the variant that moves the Mark XX from pure military instrument into something with warmth — it's an earthy, vintage-inflected color combination that the black and blue dial versions can't touch.
The case construction reveals how seriously IWC takes the pilot's watch brief. The brushed finishing across the top and vertical profiles is broken only by a faint polished bevel at each corner and a polished fixed bezel — surfaces that are refined by hand to eliminate the sharp milling edges that cheaper watches leave untouched on the lug undersides. The soft-iron inner cage that shields the movement is the reason the caseback is solid rather than exhibition — you can't see the Cal. 32111, but the engraved Ju-52 aircraft on the caseback tells you what tradition you're wearing. The EasX-CHANGE system on the strap allows tool-less swaps to rubber, fabric, or bracelet in seconds, turning a single purchase into a rotation of wearing configurations. At 40mm and 49mm lug-to-lug with 100 meters of water resistance and a screw-in crown, this is the most dimensionally refined and technically capable Mark the series has ever produced.
