About This Reference
The IW388306 is IWC's partnership piece with the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team, and it introduces one of the most compelling case materials in modern watchmaking — Ceratanium®. Developed by IWC, Ceratanium fuses the lightweight properties of titanium with the scratch-resistant hardness of ceramic, producing a matte black case that is virtually impervious to the surface wear that plagues traditional steel and titanium sport watches. The fixed bezel is finished in black polished ceramic with an integrated tachymeter scale — a first for the Pilot's Watch line — bringing motorsport functionality to a collection rooted in aviation heritage. PETRONAS green accents on the subsidiary hands and day-date window tie it to the F1 livery without overwhelming the dial's legibility-first design. Inside, the in-house calibre 69385 column-wheel integrated chronograph is visible through a tinted sapphire caseback, delivering 46 hours of power reserve with the kind of finishing that justifies its manufacture status.
