The Planet Ocean Chronograph we covered earlier is a spectacular watch — and this is the one most people should actually buy instead. Same 600-meter water resistance. Same black ceramic dial and bezel with Liquidmetal diving scale. Same helium escape valve, same screw-in crown, same professional saturation dive specification. But without the chronograph, the case drops from 45.5mm to 43.5mm, the thickness comes down from 18.87mm to 16.09mm, and the weight sheds 46 grams — from 260g to 214g on the same bracelet. That's the difference between a chronograph you admire and a dive watch you actually wear every day. The Cal. 8900 inside is the same Master Chronometer movement that powers the Aqua Terra — METAS certified, 15,000-gauss magnetic resistance, silicon balance spring, 60-hour reserve from dual barrels — except here it sits behind 600 meters of water resistance and an exhibition caseback that somehow coexists with that pressure rating. The black ceramic dial carries Arabic numerals with orange accents, and the orange minute hand, lume pip, and seconds hand tip create the signature Planet Ocean color language that visually separates this from every other dive watch in Omega's lineup and everyone else's.
The ceramic is worth understanding because it's not a cosmetic decision — it's an engineering one. The dial and bezel are both zirconium oxide ceramic, which means the black color, the surface finish, and the dimensional stability are baked into the molecular structure of the material. Steel corrodes. Aluminum fades. PVD coatings wear through. Ceramic does none of those things. The Liquidmetal diving scale on the bezel is a metallic glass alloy injected directly into the ceramic at temperatures where the two materials fuse without adhesive, creating markings that sit flush with the bezel surface and will never peel, fade, or catch on a glove. The patented extendable foldover clasp on the bracelet provides tool-free length adjustment for wetsuit transitions, and the alveol screw-in caseback distributes casing pressure evenly for the 60-bar rating while still allowing a sapphire window to the movement. This reference has been discontinued, but the combination of genuine professional dive capability, Master Chronometer certification, and a daily-wearable case size is what made it the volume seller of the Planet Ocean line for the better part of a decade.
