Every other Aqua Terra in the 231.xx generation wears the same vertical "Teak Concept" stripe pattern — it's the defining visual signature of the lineup. This reference breaks from that entirely. Introduced in mid-2016, it carries a sun-brushed blue dial with a transferred wave pattern borrowed from the 2016 Rio Olympics Seamaster 300M, and it's the only standard-production 41.5mm AT that made the swap. Where the teak pattern reads as nautical-formal, the wave motif pulls the watch closer to its diver-heritage Seamaster roots — a more dynamic, more oceanic personality on the wrist. Pair that with 18K yellow gold hands and applied indexes instead of the standard rhodium or silver, and the dial composition is genuinely unique in the AT catalog. The gold catches warm light against that deep blue in a way that no steel-toned furniture replicates, giving the watch a richness that reads closer to a two-tone precious-metal piece than a standard steel sport watch.
The timing of this reference is what makes it collectible. It launched in 2016 with the fully upgraded Master Co-Axial Cal. 8500 — the Version G with >15,000-gauss anti-magnetic resistance — and was discontinued roughly a year later when the entire 231.xx generation gave way to the 220.xx line.
