Tudor Black Bay Chrono "Panda" Original Box and Papers!

The Black Bay Chrono is Tudor's proof that you don't need to spend Daytona money to get Daytona-grade chronograph engineering — you just need to know who to call. The Manufacture Caliber MT5813 inside this ref is built by Breitling on the architecture of their B01 platform, a movement whose engineering lineage traces back through many of the same watchmakers who developed the Rolex Caliber 4130 before crossing over. What lands on your wrist is a column-wheel chronograph with a vertical clutch — the gold standard for smooth pusher engagement and seamless seconds-hand startup — a silicon hairspring that shrugs off magnetic fields and temperature swings, and a free-sprung variable-inertia balance regulated to a tighter window than COSC demands: Tudor holds the assembled watch to -2/+4 seconds per day versus the institute's -4/+6 allowance. The 70-hour power reserve means a full weekend off the wrist without losing a beat, and the 45-minute elapsed-time counter at 3 o'clock (a Tudor-specific modification over the Breitling's 30-minute register) is a practical upgrade for anyone actually timing something longer than a qualifying lap. At 28,800 vph, COSC certified, and finished with Tudor's signature sandblasted bridges and tungsten monobloc rotor, the MT5813 remains one of the highest-spec Swiss chronograph movements available at this price point by a wide margin.

What makes this particular reference the one everybody argues about is the dial. The "Panda" — opaline white main field with contrasting black sub-registers — is the chronograph colorway that launched a thousand Daytona waitlists, and Tudor's execution here is quietly excellent. The opaline surface reads slightly warm and creamy rather than stark white, catching light with a soft silvery shimmer that shifts depending on the angle, while the recessed black sub-dials at 3 and 9 add genuine depth rather than just graphic contrast. Tudor's signature Snowflake hands have been slimmed down for the chronograph format — the hour hand loses some of its usual bulk to keep the registers readable — and the applied round luminous indices sit cleanly against the bright dial. The date window lives at 6 o'clock on a white disc with black printing, which keeps it from disrupting the panda symmetry. Up top, the fixed stainless steel bezel carries a matte black anodized aluminum tachymeter disc with silver markings that ties the whole black-and-white theme together. At 41mm across, roughly 50mm lug-to-lug, and 14.4mm thick under that highly domed sapphire crystal, it wears like a legitimate sport chronograph — present on the wrist without being punishing. On the three-link riveted steel bracelet with its flip-lock clasp, this is the watch for people who wanted a panda-dial chronograph with a proper movement and couldn't justify — or stomach — what the secondary market was asking for the other one.
